This 4th of July we are paying tribute to Mistyka’s home state of Texas! Here are some tips on how to celebrate the 4th of July with a Texas twist!
LIBATIONS
Jalapeno-cucumber margaritas
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup tequila
- 1/4 cup orange liqueur
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar)
- 4 thin slices cucumber
- 4 thin slices jalapeno
- Salt for glass rims (optional)
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a pitcher.
- Chill for at least an hour (the longer the margarita sits, the more cucumber and jalapeno flavors infuse into the drink).
- Serve over ice in salt-rimmed glasses.
Corona Beer Pops
Open a bottle and pour it into any form, wait 2 hours for it to solidify slightly and insert a popsicle stick and freeze for another 2 hours or until it becomes solid.
Tequila over lime sorbet with a salted rim
Ingredients:
- 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 pints lime sorbet
- 1/2 cup tequila
Directions:
Rub the lime wedges around the rims of glasses. Place the sugar on a small plate. Turn each glass upside down and dip the rims in the sugar to coat.
Place 2 scoops of sorbet in each glass and pour 1 tablespoon of tequila over the top of each. Serve with a spoon.
For a non-alcoholic choice…Texas Sweet Ice Tea, extra ice, extra lemon!
Ingredients:
- 3 quarts cold water
- 4 pitcher-size cold brew tea bags Sugar Mixture, recipe follows
- Lemon slices, for garnish
- Mint sprigs, for garnish
Sugar Mixture:
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup sugar
Directions:
Bring the water to a boil. Remove from heat, pour into a pitcher, and steep the tea bags about 5 minutes. Mix the sugar mixture into the iced tea. Mix well.
Pour the drink mix over ice cubes in a glass. Garnish with 2 slices of lemon and a sprig of mint.
Sugar Mixture:
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and add sugar. Stir to combine.
FOOD
Kick-off the celebration with an appetizer tray of mini-Texas sliders
The Main Dish…Texas BBQ
Ask all of your guests to bring their favorite protein. You provide the grill, marinades, yummy southern comfort sides and don’t forget the aprons!
A yummy side dish that is absolutely acceptable to pre-order and pick up: Cheddar Biscuits! (No one does it quite like Red Lobster!)
If you have any fellow Texans and really want to impress…serve it with a side of Texas Blue Bell Ice Cream. (Not the easiest thing to find outside of Texas, but with a little research you can find it!)
End the night on a high note and send your guests home with a sweet night cap, Texas Banana Puddin’
DECOR
Tell your guests to come dress to impress…cowboy boots or hats required.
Use mason jars with chalkboard labels for each guest!
A themed piñata is a must!
Use a mix of sunflowers and bluebonnets (Texas state flower) to embellish your tables, bar or as an accent for the bathrooms!
